FAQ

Q. HOW DOES THIRD-PARTY SOLAR WORK?

A. Third-Party Solar, otherwise known as Investor Owned Solar, leverages investment from third-parties to fund all equipment, installation, and operations and maintenance costs for our Solar Host Sites. With this structure, these financial constraints are lifted for the Solar Host Site, allowing them to benefit from the solar energy produced on their facilities without the burden of these costs. More information on third-party solar can be found here.

Q. HOW MUCH ENERGY SAVINGS CAN A SOLAR HOST SITE EXPECT?

A. The Solar Stewards Program utilizes multiple strategies to provide savings to our Solar Host Sites. These savings can only be derived from actual calculations starting with electric consumption on site, and utility rates and structure. We strongly encourage our Solar Host Site candidates submit at least 12 months of electric utility information for an initial estimate of savings. To submit your organization for consideration, please visit our Solar Host Site page found here.

Q. ARE “SOCIAL RECS” GREEN-E CERTIFIED?

A. Yes. The Solar Stewards Program works within the Green-E framework to produce authenticated RECs which are then procured by our Climate Stewards to help reach climate goals with increased focus on community engagement, impact, access, and equity.

Q. WHO PREFORMS THE SOLAR INSTALLATION ON SOLAR HOST SITES?

A. The Solar Stewards Program utilizes a network of NABCEP Certified Solar Installers nationally to ensure best practices, local participation, and expert execution on our portfolio of Solar Host Sites. To join our network of vested and talented solar installers, inquire here.

Q. WHAT IS A POWER PURCHASE AGREEMENT?

A. A Power Purchase Agreement or PPA is a formal agreement where the Solar Host Site commits to purchasing the solar energy generated on-site at their facility. This standard agreement is typically for 20 years, and provides our Solar Host Sites with clean solar energy at a rate less than their local utility. More information on PPAs can be found here.

Q. WHERE DOES SOLAR STEWARDS WORK?

A. The Solar Stewards Program is actively developing a portfolio of credit-worthy Solar Host Sites across the United States. With the introduction of new International REC standards, and the inclusion of multi-national Climate Stewards, we are quickly expanding our program and model to micro-grids and distributed generation applications in multiple regions globally.
