Salt Lake City Site Visit

Salt Lake City aims to reach the city’s voluntary clean energy target of 100% renewable energy for community electricity by 2030. While Salt Lake City has explored various means for achieving this goal, the City has relied upon Sorenson Multicultural Center’s solar panels to generate solar power and Social REC®  revenue. Solar Stewards connected SLC with Okta, a Climate Steward, who was able to support localized climate action within Utah through the procurement of Social RECs® from the  Sorenson Center. A Community Benefit Agreement (CBA) is completed and signed which will determine the allocation of REC revenue from the SLC and Okta’s partnership.

During a highly anticipated visit to the Sorenson Multicultural Center, the Solar Stewards team was able to see the very project that would be responsible for the exciting community benefits in Utah’s capital. Solar Stewards’ Founder embarked on a comprehensive tour of the entrepreneurship hub and had a sit down in the Mayor’s office with the chief of staff. During the site visit, the Solar Stewards team explored new potential opportunities with the local school SLC district. The school district’s interest in Social RECs® and installed 1MW of solar panels could prove to be another viable opportunity for reaching the city’s clean energy targets. Okta would act as the school’s Climate Steward partner.
